Back to Previous Page Senator Hunter Honored with Michigan's Children's Legacy Hero Award
LANSING- State Senator Tupac A. Hunter (D-Detroit) was honored recently by the advocacy group Michigan’s Children with their Legacy Hero award. “I am honored to be recognized by Michigan’s Children,” said Senator Hunter. “Our children depend on us to keep them safe, make sure they receive a good education, and have every opportunity to grow up to be responsible and successful adults. I will continue to seek the support of my colleagues for legislation that will ensure that the children of Michigan have the support and resources they need to succeed in life.” Michigan’s Children is a Lansing-based advocacy group that works with lawmakers, business leaders, and communities to give all children the opportunity to thrive. For the past nine years, they have annually honored legislators for their work for children. Senator Hunter is the sponsor of legislation to require insurance companies to cover the cost of treatment programs for autism, and legislation that would create an autism research fund. He also supports federal legislation on children’s issues and is the sponsor of a resolution calling on Congress to enact the federal Protecting Children’s Health in Schools Act, and a resolution calling on Congress to enact H. R. 4230, the School-Based Health Clinic Establishment Act of 2007. # # # Sen. Hunter represents the 5th district, which is comprised of northwest Detroit, Dearborn and Inkster. He serves as Minority Vice Chair of the Banking & Financial Institutions and the Homeland Security & Emerging Technologies Committees. He is also a member of the Commerce & Tourism and the Economic Development & Regulatory Reform Committees. |
